Artist Statement
My work explores dissonance found in public and personal spheres, how it contributes to the personal and collective narratives we create for ourselves. This slippage, contingent on our natural or built surroundings, is scrutinized through the use of pictorial strategies, sculpture and installation.
ARRAYS X and Y map the psychological space of the built environment by using the reticulated shadows of urban canopy illuminated with LED array streetlights. These shadows act as the basis for a series of cookalori or “scrims” that simulate the forms in the day.
Two sculptures show a simple serialized natural form. One presents two neat rows arranged on a vertical axis, the second, metastasizes this orderly arrangement by using increasingly complicated operations of mirroring and inversion arranged along a horizontal axis.
