Minnesota Art Explosion

On view until November 13, 2022

Franconia Sculpture Park and Memorialize the Movement Present “Minnesota Art Explosion”, an exhibition and community collaboration that celebrates and creates space for Minnesota Artists. The explosive opening event takes place at Franconia Sculpture Park on Saturday, October 29th from 2pm-6:30pm. “Minnesota Art Explosion” is a unique opportunity for the MTM community to learn about and interact with various art forms across the state through an immersive experience where artists and arts organizations will have a chance to connect and build community. Activities include free art workshops, live performances, a cash bar and food truck, and more!

The “Minnesota Art Explosion” exhibition will be on display in the Driscoll Education Center in the Franconia Commons Building from October 29 to November 13, 2022. This exhibition highlights the immensely talented artists who created murals during the Minneapolis uprising following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. These works are a testament to their creators’ dedication to their craft and to the movement. Through trauma and fear, these artists showed courage by taking to the streets and creating bold declarations of justice, peace, and solidarity in the midst of a city on fire. We are honored to have these murals live on in the archives at Memorialize the Movement and are proud to present them at Franconia Sculpture Park.

ABOUT MEMORIALIZE THE MOVEMENT

Memorialize the Movement (MTM) is a living archive dedicated to collecting, preserving, and activating the plywood protest murals that were created during the Minneapolis Uprising of 2020 and beyond. By providing space for youth, artists, and our BIPOC community to heal, reflect, and learn, MTM seeks to address the issues of police brutality, community safety, and representation for Black and Brown creatives and conservationists. For more information, please visit www.memorializethemovement.com.
