Minnesota Art Explosion
On view until November 13, 2022
The “Minnesota Art Explosion” exhibition will be on display in the Driscoll Education Center in the Franconia Commons Building from October 29 to November 13, 2022. This exhibition highlights the immensely talented artists who created murals during the Minneapolis uprising following the murder of George Floyd in 2020. These works are a testament to their creators’ dedication to their craft and to the movement. Through trauma and fear, these artists showed courage by taking to the streets and creating bold declarations of justice, peace, and solidarity in the midst of a city on fire. We are honored to have these murals live on in the archives at Memorialize the Movement and are proud to present them at Franconia Sculpture Park.
ABOUT MEMORIALIZE THE MOVEMENT
Memorialize the Movement (MTM) is a living archive dedicated to collecting, preserving, and activating the plywood protest murals that were created during the Minneapolis Uprising of 2020 and beyond. By providing space for youth, artists, and our BIPOC community to heal, reflect, and learn, MTM seeks to address the issues of police brutality, community safety, and representation for Black and Brown creatives and conservationists. For more information, please visit www.memorializethemovement.com
This activity is made possible by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the East Central Regional Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the arts and cultural heritage fund.
