Artist Statement

Idol is a 25 foot tall kinetic steel sculpture. When I was coming up with the design, I paid close attention to how to make different symbols interact with each other within the sculpture. The viewer can interact with the hand crank to adjust the reflector on top to bounce sunlight in almost any direction. However, since the hand cranking is located about 8 feet high, a viewer cannot actually reach it without steps or a ladder.
