2012 FSP/Jerome Fellowship Artist I Hear Your Eyes 32′ x 6′ x 3′ 6″ Stainless Steel, Wood 2012 Artist Statement: Jia-Jen Lin’s practice investigates the psychological distance between our artificial lives and physical sensations. By way of collecting, modifying, and representing information and materials from everyday experiences, Lin develops a series of works integrating sculpture, performance, and digital projections. “I Hear Your Eyes” is a sculpture that represents an on-going balance between illusion, imagination, and reality. Built with mirror-finished surfaces on top of expansive wooden structures, it alludes to Franconia’s prairie grass settings. The installation embraces its surroundings and responds to different lighting throughout the day, While walking on the reflective panels, the audience will experience the changes in altitude and the reflections from both the surroundings and themselves. On July 14, 2012, Jia-Jen Lin collaborated with dancer Alison Holland (MN) and saxophonist Nathan Hanson (MN) to present a live performance for this site-specific work. Together they explored dialogues between sculpture, physical movement, and music.
