Artist Statement
Naturally colored cylinders feature found objects and recycled items from Franconia Sculpture Park, which are cast into vertical strata of concrete, plaster and local clay. They represent oversized core samples that might be extracted from the earth right here at Franconia. The varied materials combine to contrast fragments of bright man-made things with layers of natural earthen elements. Eons from now, when archaeologists dig up our civilization, what will they discover? Rusty soda cans, discarded plastic, and other detritus from life in the 3rd millennium.
This artwork is based on a series of outdoor artworks created with conceptual input from Ashley Beatty.
