Artist Statement
My work draws parallels between natural and cultural processes of construction and adornment, placing humans in a lineage of makers that started in nature. Architecture and tools are recurrent themes to which I return, something I can only assume stems from a family connection to the building trade. These two themes share the role of being some of the earliest extensions to our fleshy body, dividing us from the rest of the natural world. In my work I like to look at the sympathies and concessions made by these objects, such as the way the foliation of architectural ornament mimics the natural world it replaces almost as a concession or a ghost of the world it replaced.
