Artist Statement
Hanna Umin has a preoccupation with misanthropy, isolation, and tragedy. She sees the art object as a structure whose completion may result in surplus significance. Umin’s work, bringing together cast and found objects, assembles structures whose obsessive, irregular detail is placed at odds with the thematic contents of their titles. She is interested in how personal experience relates to anonymous systems.
