Artist Statement
Giulia Gentili’s work often touches on the relationship between man and nature through a material led practice. The togetherness of these elements has allowed her to explore a contemporary response to geology that allows for a somewhat ‘scientific’ approach.
Her piece at Franconia Sculpture Park is an amalgamation of the material processes involved in iron casting and the surrounding geological landscapes formed by the Glacial St Croix river. With an initial landscape in mind, the silica sand was shaped freehand to create the shape. The result is an open-ended form that picked up both the texture of the sand and the human touch.
