Artist Statement
The purpose of this altar is to create grounding for a vessel in ambiguity and a body lost in space.
The body is tied in positions that emulate that of Saint Sebastian, sprawled and restricted on the altar. The figure is mic’d, with each microphone piercing the body as an arrow and passing its sound through synthesizers. The vessel itself creates a composition of the events taking place, as the recording creates a physical element of the unseen. In addition to the altar in its aftermath and the archive that surrounds it, banners display spectrograms of different frequencies produced by the body, making the in-between tangible. This body dedicates itself to housing that which it never posessed.
