Artist Statement xPARTITEy follows the primary scheme of my work which includes multiples or collections of objects. With a background in porcelain slip casting, finding a way to use similarly vulnerable materials, in this case glass, and have them survive in the outdoors was a very interesting and sometimes frustrating challenge. The glass bottles in this sculpture represent my experience in south India where women are not allows to purchase or consume alcohol, not even a foreign woman. xPARTITEy is an exploration of returning home and starting to recognize the subtler forms of sexism in our daily lives in the U.S.
