Artist Statement
Quotidian objects and raw materials are the main components to my work. As a result of my upbringing I am rather resourceful. I see others garbage as opportunities for scavenging. I collect many things; my favorites are the prosaic objects I use as raw materials. Using a multidisciplinary approach allows me to be expansive while handling my concepts, materials, and process. Each iteration propels the next sculpture into formation. Searching, buying, and being gifted with multiples is central to my practice. Initially the audience may see straight forward found objects, the work then reveals itself blurring into a transformative skin. In the studio the materials tend to lead the building process. Yet, while I work, I come to understand what my abstract assemblages mean to me personally and politically.
