I am interested in what happens to familiar spaces and experiences when you do something unfamiliar with them. Do we as people still gather on a fishing dock and gaze at the stars, birds, and vastness before us if the dock is on dry land in a field? Can a gazebo in a park be anything other than a gazebo in a park?
Six String Gazebo mimics the same intimate setting one could find in many city park gazebos and turns it into a musical instrument. I invite the viewer to play the gazebo by plucking and gently striking the cables. The entire structure is one continuous welded piece of metal and the platform is floating off the ground. This allows the vibrations and notes to flow seamlessly through the structure, the players feet, and into their body. Like the face of a guitar, the plywood roof resonates to project sound down onto the player.
